MYSTIC EAST:
Musikong Kawayan in Concert 2007
View printable pdf
Once again,
PCFI’s Musikong Kawayan Bamboo Ensemble is proud to
present another major concert entitled “Mystic East” on
Sunday, November 4, 2007 at 3:00PM at the Bayanihan Arts
and Events Center. This concert will feature the
30-piece bamboo ensemble with guests, Philippine
Performing Arts Company, the Philippine Choral Group and
the Tallahassee Community College Dance Company in an
afternoon of music and dance celebrating the richness of
Philippine folk tales and myths.
Celebrating
its fifth year , the Musikong Kawayan Bamboo Ensemble
has represented the Filipino community in concerts,
festivals, television shows and exhibits in the Tampa
Bay Area and other venues including the Florida Folk
Festival, Kaleidoscope Festival, AsiaFest, CTTV Friday
Extra Concert Series and others. These endeavors have
been made possible through the Philippine Cultural
Foundation’s thrust in its Music Instrumental Program
and with the support of the Arts Council of Hillsborough
County and the Hillsborough County Board of County
Commissioners. The Ensemble is directed by Nhick Ramiro
Pacis under the guidance of PCFI Board Member Ma. Teresa
Bissonnette, MD.
Even before
its formal establishment in 1991, the Philippine
Performing Arts Company, Inc. has been a potent cultural
icon within the Filipino community in Tampa and has also
performed in major festivals locally and in other US
cities. Under the direction of Joey Omila, the company
is composed of Filipino-American youth and adults
promoting Filipino culture through art, music and dance.
The
Philippine Choral Group began as the resident choir of
the Bicol Association of Tampa, evolving into an
independent association that has provided entertainment
to the Filipino community through the years. These
include independent concerts, performances at PCFI’s
Annual PhilFest as well as religious festivities in
churches around the Tampa Bay Area. The Philippine
Choral Group is directed by Connie Chanrasmi under the
chairmanship of PCFI Board
member, Olive Santiano.
The
Tallahassee Community College Dance Company was formed
in 2002 by Filipino-born Aurora Torres-Hansen and Liz
Delancy. It was created as a venue for students, faculty
and staff of Tallahassee Community College to create,
choreograph and study dance along with local
choreographers and guest dance artists. Performing a
large chunk of Hansen’s choreography, the company has
received several awards and recognitions for its
community contributions and participation. The company
has been a regular guest at PCFI’s annual PhilFest
during the past two years.
Music in
“Mystic East” is arranged and composed by Nhick Ramiro
Pacis, set design by Arlene Tolentino and sound design
by Fr. Christian Villagomeza. General admission is
$12.00 and $6.00 for students with valid school
identification. Children 5 and under get in for free.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit PCFI’s Music
Instrumental Program.
