PPAC WINS TOP
PRIZE IN DANCE COMPETITION
 |
|
PPAC
with Valdosta hosts Mr. and Mrs.
Bauer and members of the Filipino
community, after being announced as
the winners of this year's dance
competition. |
The Philippine
Performing Arts (PPAC) who represented the
Filipinos of Tampa Bay won the First and Fourth
Place at the recent Azalea International Folk
Fair and Dance Competition beating 17 other
countries in Valdosta, Georgia last Saturday,
March 8th. The 3-day event was "The South's" 3rd
Annual World Culture Dance Competition held in
Valdosta and the first participation of PPAC.
Filipinos of Valdosta and it's neighboring
cities all came to support the performance of
PPAC and even paid for the company's
registration fees, and provided lunch for all
the performers and parent-chaperons headed by
Rocky Barrido, Mennie and Roger Huntsinger and
Roland Allado.
The competition had two categories: Youth an
adult. PPAC registered two dances under the
adult category. Pandanggo Sa Ilaw-Wasiwas
coveted the Fourth Place and the PPAC version of
the "Sinulog" Festival which won the First
Place. The Philippine dancers beat all 17
countries including the United States, Japan,
Middle East, Ireland, Scotland, Cuba, Brazil,
India, Thailand, Korea, Cambodia, just to
mention a few. Both Philippine entries were
received with standing ovation from the
audience.

PPAC at the Philippine Exhibits with
members of the
Filipino community of Valdosta,
Georgia. |
PPAC came to Valdosta per the invitation of
Inday Bauer, head of the Philippine community in
Valdosta and a member of the organizing
community of the Azalea International Folk Fair
Fair and Dance Competition. Inday and members of
the Valdosta Philippine community were almost in
tears when the Philippines was announced as the
First Place beating India by just a few points!
Both dances presented by PPAC were the favorites
of the audiences based on a "popularity vote."
Judges of the competition were well known
figures and choreographers in the field of dance
and the arts from the Atlanta Ballet and
prominent dance companies from other states
including Florida.
PPAC first performed their interpretation of the
"Sinulog" at the recent Sinulog Fiesta at St.
Paul Catholic Church in Tampa last January. A
week later, the group again performed the same
dance to the enthusiastic crowd from the Santo
Nino Fiesta in Altamonte, Florida. PPAC will
present this winning dance number at the
upcoming annual "PhilFest" of the Philippine
Cultural Foundation, Inc.(PCFI).
BRAVO AND KUDOS TO PPAC AND TO TAMPA BAY!!!
