Sunday, April 15, 2007

On the afternoon of the Friday after Easter this year ( the 13th of April) , PhilFest 2007 will start in style, as the previous PhilFests before it. This year marks the 12th anniversary of this annual trademark three-day festival which raises funds for the maintenance of the Philippine Village and the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center and fund its various cultural and community projects. At the same time it offers an opportunity for people of all nationalities and ethnic groups to catch a glimpse of Philippine culture. This Filipino fiesta bridges the apparent cultural gap between Filipinos born and raised the traditional way and their offspring born here in the United States or elsewhere.

Around 12,000 guests are expected to attend PhilFest 2007. Attendees will have a chance to witness a typical town festival with authentic food served by local food vendors and caterers all housed in beautifully decorated booths with barrio themes . People will have a chance to see and buy various Philippine handicrafts and accessories . There will be presentations of authentic Philippine dances, songs , and other cultural presentations from different local as well as groups from Orlando, Tallahassee, Jacksonville and others. A popular and well known artist and stand up comedian, Rex Navarette, will be here to make everyone laugh and forget their cares and worries .People will have a chance to watch an elegant fashion show of different Philippine costumes and formal evening wear modeled by members of the Philippine Cultural Foundation . There will be the usual Tawag ng Tanghalan, the Filipino American Idol counterpart , as well as the much-awaited Revolution 2007, which has attracted droves of local Florida college students to perform or watch the Hip-Hop dance competition among the different Florida college institutions. Of course people will again see and admire the traditional parade of both adults and children dressed in colorful elegant Philippine gowns. These are the Mr./ Miss PhilFest , and Little Miss PhilFest and Flores de PhilFest beauties . At the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center people will get a chance to see different regional cultural exhibits and artifacts in booths sponsored by the different associations of PCFI. In addition selected different choral, cultural and dance groups will also perform there.

Advanced PhilFest gate tickets will be $5 and $6 at the door. Children under 5 are free. Don’t miss out on the chance to participate in the 2007 PCFI Grand Raffle Drawing with $5,000, $2000 and $1000 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize. All gate ticket and raffle ticket sales will be credited toward the Miss PhilFest candidate of your choice.
