Friday, April 4 - 6, 2008

Friday, the 4th of April , will mark the opening of the Philippine Cultural Foundation’s 13th trademark three-day festival and premier fund-raising event - PhilFest 2008 . Like all the other previous PhilFests, the event promises to Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike a weekend of food ,dance, music, and an impressive number of other forms of entertainment.

The festival is co-chaired by Rudy Bautista and Roger Caculitan , assisted by the vice chairs , Bing Santiano, Dave Sweet and Rocky Barrido . With more than twenty-three (23) committees working hand in hand, feverishly preparing for this big event, this year’s festival is sure to be another hit!

With approximately 12,000-14,000 expected attendees, the Philippine Village will be transformed into a typical town fiesta ( festival) with different food vendors offering a myriad of Philippine dishes and delicacies that are sure to cater to various palates and several merchandise vendors displaying handicrafts, very colorful Philippine attire, and accessories of all kinds . There will also be different cultural presentations like authentic Philippine dances , songs, and others performed by local dance and song groups , as well as groups from all over Florida and beyond. REVOLUTION 2008 will again showcase the talents of hip-hop dancers representing almost all universities/colleges in Florida. Not to be missed is the annual TAWAG ng TANGHALAN, the Filipino counterpart of American Idol , with a separate one for adults and another for the youth . Always a highlight of the festival is the parade of both children and adults dressed in the most elegant and colorful Filipino gowns and costumes. Another exciting event to watch is YUGYUGAN (street dancing ) 2008, which the audience is invited to participate in should they so desire. Once again our beautiful Bayanihan Arts and Events Center will feature different cultural exhibits showcasing Philippine furniture , the most beautiful and elegant Philippine gowns , artistic displays of Philippine handicrafts , and others .

Once again, the Foundation will sponsor the Dual Citizenship oath taking ceremony ( for Philippine American Citizens ) on Sunday, April 6 , at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center and on Friday and Saturday , the 4th and the 5th , the staff from the Philippine Embassy in Washington will hold a Consulate-On-Wheels at the Cimafranca Library to provide consular services.

Advance PhilFest tickets will be $5 and will be $6 at the gate. Don’t miss out on participating in our Grand Raffle Drawing with cash prizes of $5,000, $2,000, and $1,000 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize.
