Pasko - A Philippine Christmas Celebration

What is POP?  It is the informal and popular form of art that usually reflects art more appreciated by the younger generation and the more avant garde not-too-young generation.  The term POP is used in visual and performing art, fashion, society and culture.  You have heard of pop art, pop music, pop fashion, pop society, pop culture, etc.  POP is modern, progressive, fun and exciting. This type of art uses and creates new ideas, methods, designs or styles.

Since the Filipino American community exudes in eclectic talents, especially among the young, PCFI will launch the POP Concert Series that will showcase a number of groups or individuals’ artistic performing skills in a series of concerts at the Bayanihan Arts and Events CenterCenter.  For PCFI purposes, the Series will include all forms of acceptable performing art, as long as they do not fall under the conventional term “classical”.

Aki  and  I Concert
January, 2006

One of the objectives of the Foundation is to promote the multitude of talents in the community.  Without a budget, the Committee will depend on the attendance and generosities of the community to support the concerts.  There will be three types of season passes (December 2005 to November 2006).  One is the “Sponsor of the Arts” Season Pass for all POP concerts at $100.00 donation (preferred seating); the other is the Friend of the Arts Season Pass for all POP concerts at $50.00 donation (general seating). Patron of the Arts (V.I.P. passes) will also be available to those who will donate $500 per couple or $250 per individual to support this program. Tickets may also be purchased at the door for each concert at $10 per adult; $3.00 for 11-18 years old ((ID needed); and free for children 10 and under.    Passes, which can only be used for POP concerts, are transferable to family and friends and will be available at the Arts Center or through members of the committee.

Under the Cultural Affairs Division of the PCFI, this exciting POP Concert Series is co-chaired by Dr. Terry Bissonnette, Dr. Judy Cimafranca and Dr. Evelyn Gador, Rose Dy, Merle Lewis, Lucy Bautista, Dr. Linda Pascual, &  Edna Ramos, members; with Nhick Pacis, Aba Villagomeza, Connie Chansrasmi, and Dr. Bill Cua as program/technical advisers; and Olive Santiano, chairman of the Classical Concert Series, as an ex-officio member.
