On Saturday, September 15, 2007, the impressively and
tastefully decorated Sampaguita Grand Ballroom of the
PCFI Bayanihan Arts and Events Center will once again be
the setting of the much awaited and most
traditionally elegant social evening in Tampa Bay -
the celebration of the 14th annual Sampaguita Ball.
This year’s Sampaguita Ball is chaired by Rose Dy, the
president of the Philippine Medical Auxiliary and one of
the most active members of the PCFI board. Working on
the committee with her are the equally diligent and
hardworking ladies who have unselfishly dedicated
themselves to serving the community and the Foundation
by taking care of its various fundraising and social
activities without any monetary remuneration.
This year’s gala dinner dance starts at 6:00 p.m. with
cocktails and hors d’oeuvres followed by an exotic
lauriat dinner served by one of the best caterers in the
Tampa Bay area. Of course, there will be the
traditional open bar and the the usual cena de media
noche consisting of native delicacies and sweets
prepared and donated by the area’s local caterers.
Music will be provided by one of our most popular local
bands, Rhythm in Motion, whose repertoire consisting of
a distinctive blend of ballroom, classical, and
contemporary music will surely display the nimble moves
of professional and amateur dancers alike. Musical
entertainment will be provided by the Philippine Choral
Group, the members of the Sampaguita Ball committee
under the direction of Bing Curioso, and our special
guest singer will be Natalie Chua of “Angelis” and UK’s
Platinum Record Awardee.
This
year’s gala affair, one of the premier fundraising
events of PCFI, with its attendees consisting of ladies
donned in their very elegant and colorful ternos or
evening gowns and men finely dressed in distinctive
Barong Tagalogs and black ties, promises to be one of
the most successful formal fundraising events of PCFI,
very much like its predecessors since 1994.
Tickets for this formal affair will be $100 per plate
and reservations may be made by calling Carolina
Lugay-Lacson, M.D., (727) 642-6563; Liberty Galloway,
(727) 531-0840; or Rose Dy, ( 727) 934-0067. Information
is available at the PCFI website:

“My Dad is Filipino,” the words proudly announced by
Nathalie Grace Chua in front of millions of viewers when
she was interviewed together with her sensational
chart-topper vocal group “Angelis” on television’s GMTV.
Nathalie was the overall winner of the UK Songwriting
Contest in 2004 with her composition “Guardian Angels”.
She was only 12 years old then and she held the record
as the youngest winner.
She was later selected from over 3,500 choristers and
top classical singers to be one of the six members of
Simon Cowell’s platinum-selling classical crossover
band, Angelis. The band sold half a million albums in
just over two months and topped the UK charts. She was
recently presented with a platinum disc for the album on
national TV.
In recognition of her winning UK songwriting contest,
she was invited to meet Philippine President Gloria
Arroyo during Her Excellency’s London visit last year.
The president personally presented her with a
Presidential Achievement Award.
Nathalie
was also crowned Little Miss Philippines-UK 1998 and
ABS-CBN’s Little Miss Universe 1999. Her stage credits
include the West End production of “The King and I”.
Nathalie will continue to be active in the Filipino
community and will help support Filipino events and
talents with her parents, Eddie and Nora Chua. Their
visit in the US in August to September will include
performances in Miami, Orlando and Tampa where they
graciously accepted the invitation from Chairman Rudy
Bautista and his wife, Lucy, to perform at the
Foundation’s annual gala event, “Sampaguita Ball 2007”.
Nathalie and her parents even promised to donate some of
her memorabilia to the Foundation. With her presence,
the Charity Ball will be another successful and
memorable evening.
